Therefore I have suffered this worse than some people but not as bad as some unfortunate souls have had to put up with. My left ear has morphed into not only muffled hearing but a constant rumbling wooshing noise. A constant ringing in her ears was the first sign that something was wrong. To many doctors, ototoxicity just means hearing loss or tinnitus. It may be a ringing, roaring, beating, clicking, banging, buzzing, hissing, humming, blowing, chirping, clanging, sizzling, whooshing, rumbling, whistling or dreadful shrieking noise in your head. Not only does the risk increase, but the resulting ototoxic damage has a tendency to be more severe and is more likely to be permanent. My life has changed drastically. At 8:30 the next morning, I lost the hearing in my left ear.

I’ve heard my pulse whooshing in my ear for over 5 years. Hearing got very difficult, like sounds have a hard time getting past the WHOOSH WHOOSH. I have low blood pressure and no tumors in my neck (I had a scan in 2002) but the noise is pretty distracting. Unfortunately, I have bilateral Meniere’s and my left ear started causing me to have attack after attack. After the first surgery I had a lot of pain, but no real vertigo, this time I had minimal pain, but severe constant vertigo for over a week. I get a whoosh feeling and I know it is comingor it just comes BAM!

I have been hearing this humming noise too. but only in my left ear. Earlier in this thread, back in october, you may have noticed that the hum that had been a constant occurrence disappeared from my life completely almost immediately after i requested feedback from this group. Some pulsatile tinnitus patients have a high jugular bulb, which means that it rides higher than normal. About 7 years ago I began noticing this whooshing sound in my left ear that was synchronous with my heartbeat. I did find that using a silicon ear plug (not foam) actually muffled the sound just a little bit so it helped with sleep. I often wake up hearing a loud gunshot or a loud electrical noise that sounds like a Tesla Coil producing lightning. I have had some problems with my left ear and I wear ear plugs to sleep.
