Yes, clap your hands to your ears if there is a sudden loud sound around you (a siren going past you, or a truck blasting his air horn), but otherwise do not overprotect your ears so your auditory system will always have adequate stimulation. In this swollen and entrapped state, the nerve only has so much time before it potentially starts to die. I know that it is very upsetting to us to have our dogs not be able to hear us, but in my experience, they accept this much better than we do. The other thing that can be happening is a very loud tinnitus (ringing in the ears) which can subside somewhat over time or you can adjust your hearing somewhat. You need to work to keep her weight down so that she does not develop diabetes and taper them down or off a few times a years and watch her liver enzymes but I think it is worth it to keep her on them if it improves her hearing. The more gradually you taper, the less likely the brain zaps are to occur. Others may experience symptoms of nausea and/or tinnitus (ringing in the ears). I believe a lot of it is anxiety, as they happen when I get stressed out. If you experience a very severe withdrawal, it is likely due to one or more of these factors. It is never recommended to quit taking Prednisone cold turkey. Then they had me do teh 12 day taper that I ended on day 8 due to problems being on it.
